StarAstrologer - Books : The New Astrology: A Unique Synthesis of the World's Two Great Astrological Systems: The Chinese and Western

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - interesting idea but yin/yang info is entirely incorrect!
I thought I just had a bad copy of the book or something when I was reading her definitions of yin and yang, and I've also never seen the Dog classified as yin. In ALL other material I have seen or read about yin/yang (which is considerable since I studied Taoism for years) yin is known to be feminine, dark, moist, contractive, connected to the moon. Yang is known to be masculine, bright, dry, expansive, connected to the sun. And as another reviewer farther down the line noted, her associations between the Chinese zodiac sign and its yin/yang quality are not at all in line with the ancient traditionally taught paradigm. I'm not sure where that comes from or where she learned it the way she did, but I stick with the ancient texts and original source books.

It's an ambitious undertaking, certainly, and I love the idea of blending the two forms of astrology but the actual book left me a bit cold. It's juicy reading for a few moments, but I didn't learn anything. If you're new to astrology this could be fun, but if you study the subject (Chinese or Western) this won't do much for you. And I can't stress enough the importance of the yin/yang symbolism and qualities. You can't separate that from Chinese astrology and with her system being totally different from the way it's been taught for ages I can't put any faith into it.

Cute and fluffy fun, but steer clear if you are looking for accurate information. I've owned this book for over 10 years and while I'm an enthusiastic student of astrology, I never use this as a tool.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not the best...
This book is alright... Suzanne White didn't really do so much of a good job writing this book. Alright, maybe some of it has validity but I think many books do not dig too deep when comes to the realm of Chinese astrology. I don't know why... Maybe it's the fact that many aren't really well-versed in it, I don't know... I do know however that it's what its worth.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Astrology: Evolved
Being new to astrology, I have found this book to be a very useful introduction. As an aspiring writer, the character descriptions give me a useful template for characters in my stories. Thanks Suzanne!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Book About Chinese Astrology
Suzanne White is a very fine writer whom I regard as an "expert" on Chinese Astrology, as she has studied this subject and has written several books on the subject. Each book that she has written has added a new twist to the topic; in this case, the combining of Chinese and Western astrology has created "The New Astrology." This ambitious effort has yielded new insights to me regarding the combination of characteristics of both: how some people are bold, fiery, outspoken individuals and how some are reticent, shy wallflowers. Some of this may be environment, some of it may be the products of other "people" influences, but some may also be the intangible influences born into someone. I found the book to be extremely interesting, as all of White's books are. Maybe you believe in astrology, maybe you don't, but it's worth taking a look into this encompassing book - and continuing on your path of self-discovery.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The New Astrology:A Unique Synthesis of the World's Two Great Astrological Systems: The Chinese and Western
This is an excellent book to pick up and check information on one's self, and others very quickly instead of going through multiple books. This is a very, very well written book, and also very accurate on different astrological signs. At times more accurate than any other astrology book I have read!
