Editorial Review:
Product Description: The Fool and trumps in The Alchemical Tarot each relate to an alchemical process, which is part of the Great Work of alchemy that leads to the creation of the Philosopher s Stone, a mystical catalyst that transforms what it touches to its highest form. It can cure any illness, turn lead into gold, and turn an ordinary person into an enlightened sage. The Stone is represented symbolically by the World card. The four minor suits are related to the four elements of the alchemists: earth, air, fire, and water and in The Alchemical Tarot each of these elements is related to one of the four functions of consciousness as listed by Jung: sensation, thinking, feeling, and intuition, respectively.

This is a very beautiful Tarot deck, second to none. The illustrations are fresh, thought-provoking and interesting without being too dark or cheesy. The elements are strongly-symbolized, such as combining salamanders with fire and so forth. A nice deck for serious users. I wish I had also puchased the book!

I connected with this deck immediately. The symbology is more than adequate with well-chosen coloring to add to the meaning of each card. However, my deck was flawed, in that several cards had scars, or scratches that appeared to have been caused by the printing process. In hindsight I wish I would have returned them for a replacement deck.

I bought this deck because 1, I collect Tarot decks and 2, I was interested in Alchemy. I was not disappointed with this deck. The illustrations are gorgeous and the symbolism is wonderful. You need to be familiar with Tarot to use this deck for readings but I had no trouble with it even though I generally read with the RWS deck. For those interested in Kaballah, Alchemy and symbolism as well as Tarot reading this is a lovely deck. If you collect like I do this is a gorgeous deck to add to your collection.

Originally published by Thorsons in 1995, when the Alchemical Tarot went out of print, many clamored to buy both the deck and companion book--often at a steep price. In fact, the original edition still fetches hundreds of dollars with the companion book by Rosemary Ellen Guiley going for $75 or more online.
Fortunately for Tarot enthusiasts, Hermes Publications/Robert M. Place have issued an updated version of this deck called The Alchemical Tarot Renewed.
The two main differences ... Read More

greetings!
this new version is a wonderful addition or new tarot for those interested in exploring The Alchemical Tarot by Bob Place and pub. by Hermes Publications. Hermes Pub. is a new publishing house that can be found on the many sites of Leisa ReFalo and also Robert Place. Mr. Place's seminal text, 'THE TAROT: HISTORY, SYMBOLISM AND DIVINATION will make THE ALCHEMICAL TAROT: RENEWED easy to read for oneself or others although that text uses the images of The Pixie Smith Tarot (rws).
